Asemeni unei reviste, o pagina de internet trebuie sa aiba, pe langa continutul informational, un aspect grafic placut care sa atraga si sa intrige vizitatorul. Plecand de la imaginea pe care compania dvs o promoveaza pein alte surse, pagina dvs. de internet trebuie sa incorporeze elemente grafice specifice si reprezentative pentru compania dvs, iar in functie de continutul si cantitatea de informatie publicata, o pagina de internet va contine o mai mica sau mai mare suprafata utila (suprafata rezervata informatiei :text, poze, legaturi si butoane) completata de suprafata grafica (contine elemente grafice definitorii ale paginii), urmarind cateva reguli de baza :

• logo (sigla)

  sigla companiei dvs trebuie sa fie lizibila, cu dimensiuni cuprinse intre 3% si 15% din suprafata paginii, situata in acelasi loc indiferent de sectiunea in care se afla vizitatorul, pe cat posibil distincta fata de continutul grafic.

  fie ca doriti sa oferiti spatiu publicitar, fie ca folositi aceasta metoda pentru a promova anumite produse proprii sau sectiuni ale paginii, suprafata publicitara poate fi agresiva (intercalata continutului informational sau meniului) sau poate ocupa o suprafata dedicata sub forma de banner publicitar (dreptunghi lat situat in partea de sus a paginii), tower (turn : dreptunghi inalt situat lateral) sau footer (dreptunghi lat, plasat in zona de jos a paginii) continand una sau mai multe poze, o animatie sau fiind impartita in mai multe zone.

• continuitatea si simetria

  fiecare pagina de internet isi stabileste singura cum structureaza informatia, unde si cum pozitioneaza meniurile si legaturile, putand fi derutant pentru vizitatorul aflat prima data pe pagina dvs; este recomandat sa singura regulain toate sectiunile paginii, sa echilibrati pe orizontala si verticala continutul grafic si informational pentru ca vizitatorul sa-si poata crea cat de repede un "tipar" conform caruia sa invete sa navigheze pe pagina dvs.

• relevanta informatiei

  un vizitator se va hotara in general in primele 5-10 secunde daca pagina dvs prezinta ceea ce il intereseaza, deci este recomandat sa aveti in fiecare pagina si subpagina informatie distincta si elocventa, vizibila in primul ecran; un vizitator nu va intra neaparat direct prin prima pagina, putand fi adus de un motor de cautare sau o legatura (link, reffer) direct intr-o anumita sectiune (subpagina)

There was this web design competition I entered a month ago, but didn't get around to completing anything for it. I did come out with plenty of ideas though. As this blog is brand new, and I can't really describe the ideas fluently in Twitter, I'm going to be using this space over the next few weeks to describe the concepts I had. If I can get to a scanner, I'll upload the notes I had as well, as they had [crudely] drawn depictions and mockups. Until then...

I spent my night designing Corina's personal website and hopefully I'll design her blog too at some point in the near future. The concept is very simple - I'll try to counterbalance what I suspect will be an abundance of text on her site with a lot of visual incentives. Although Corina's looking for a semi-official design - and that's why I'm keeping it simple and 'elegant' black-white-Grey, the occasional color:), I'll also cheer it up a bit with drawings, because it is after all the personal website of a good-spirited one. Here's tonight's work:

Changes that are soon to come: changing the pictures i got off the web with drawings (including the freaking header image). Yes, I'm very excited - it's the first website I build. I also have this other version, with the categories up top:

I think I'm starting to understand the process behind dreamweaver. Although I am pretty slow it my page is starting to look like an actual website and not just random objects thrown onto a page. I still am frustrated with the amount of time it takes me to insert a box and get it to look like I want, but hopefully with a couple more days of playing my website will be up and running. And that's the last project for this class....YAY!!! The projects have left me feeling a little naive and behind the times, but I am starting to understand how several of the pieces that we were shown in class could be great tools in the classroom if utilized correctly. My brain is a little bogged down tonight so I'm going to end this for tonight and give myself some time to think.

This is a test post for the web design class in school!

One of the first steps to a successful web site is having a professional and functional design. Research has shown that you only have a matter of seconds to engage and impress your website visitors or they will look elsewhere.

We endeavour to create a balance between design and functionality with web sites that look good and work effectively - fast loading, clean html, navigate easily and are search engine friendly.

I used to have a large web site covering web design. There are now much better resources available with deeper pockets, so I have closed it down. But a few of the tables I still find useful, so I've kept them. You'll find them under the Web Ref tab above.

This includes the codes for the Latin-1 Character code set,  fancy tricks with rules (HR), a more visual web safe colour table, CMY and Netscape to RGB conversion, and a general explanation of colour on the web.
