How to design a website–by Gary Simon

Here's a great great post from Gary Simon:

"This is a very extensive tutorial that features 4 sections. Web design concepts and theory, the full design process from start to finish, the image cutting process, and then the full HTML & CSS process. I wanted to write the *hands down* best tutorial on designing and developing a web site."

Accessibility Kit for SharePoint (AKS) 1.0

This is now available here and is a toolkit for developers to use with SharePoint Server 2007 or Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 for creation of sites and applications which advance the accessibility of people with disabilities, especially those who are vision impaired.  Several clients have asked about this in the past months - I haven't had a chance to look at it myself yet, but it is worth noting this from the SharePoint Team Blog -

"To reiterate the approach that we're taking with the AKS, it is being developed as a set of building blocks rather than an end-to-end solution. We expect many SharePoint partners to take various pieces of the kit and integrate them into their respective product or service offerings while some customers will integrate particular components of the kit into their SharePoint deployment processes"

So it won't be a case of clicking on Setup and expecting everything to be compliant...

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Ο "Θεόφιλος" θέλει να είναι κοντά στην ελληνική πολύτεκνη οικογένεια. Θέλει να τους στηρίξει πραγματικά, ουσιαστικά και όχι με λόγια. Βοηθήστε τον με όποιον τρόπο μπορείτε. Το έχει ανάγκη για να συνεχίσει. Δηλώστε και εσείς εθελοντές... και ποια μεγαλύτερη αναγνώριση υπάρχει για έναν εθελοντή, από την πρόταση πρόσληψης σε αυτήν την εποχή ανεργίας;

heyshow.jpg

Grid system :

WEB DESIGN RULE No.1 : DON'T MAKE ME THINK!

Green Web Design in Fond Du Lac, WI November 28, 2007

THIS IS AN INFORMATIVE PIECE FROM GREEN WEB DESIGN'S WEBSITE WHICH CAN BE FOUND AT:

greenwebdesign.com

Green Web Design is a woman-owned business

The full-time staff of Green Web Design consists of myself (Jessica), my husband (Robert), and my father (Brian). Robert and I work from our home office in Fond Du Lac, and Brian works from his home office in Milwaukee.

I primarily do all of the Website Design, Programming, Scripts, Databases, and Custom Myspace Design work. I also perform Keyword Research, White Hat Search Engine Optimization, and Online Marketing of all kinds. I set up the sitemaps, maintain Google Analytics accounts, analyze data gathered by the team, and perform other duties too numerous to list. I sleep about 5 hours a day. I literally work around the clock sometimes, because I work from my living room, and there's no reason not to keep working if I'm not tired. I can literally do 3x the work as a "regular" web developer working in an office because I don't have to go home - I'm already there! I don't have to punch a time clock, take lunch breaks out of the office, or pay for parking by the hour, which means that I don't have to restrict my hours the way a web design firm with a large company does.

Brian provides Target Marketing Research, Structured Advertising Campaigns for small to medium sized companies, Merchant Account Services, Search Engine Marketing, and other related services. Visit his main website for more information: 50 Caliber Online Marketing. His main business these days is providing Merchant Accounts and Secure Credit Card Processing services for any size business. Whether you need processing for the e-Commerce website you just launched, or for your store in the local strip mall, Brian is the man to know!

Robert is our main Search Engine Research Analyst. He also places classified advertisements on behalf of our clients, maintains their custom myspace profiles and manages friends requests, maintains client profiles on other social networking websites, and performs various types of Search Engine Marketing for many of our clients. He provides me with many types of assistance in our home office.

We also have several other talented friends who we hire to do contract work for us on an "as needed" basis for larger projects. One of them also owns a web design company, Soniq Designs. Another is a database analyst at a fortune 500 company who does side jobs for us. Another is a super genius who speaks more programming languages than I do, as a hobby. No matter how big or small your project is, Green Web Design & Internet Consulting can get the job done.

I began Green Web Design as a "nights and weekends job" in 1995 while I was going to college for Environmental Science, but my love of computers actually goes back to the Christmas that I got my very first computer, a Commodore 64, when I was 8 years old. My parents took a picture of me sitting at the desk, hunched over the keyboard typing away with a look of pure joy on my face, my brand new Peaches n Cream Barbie and Ken laying discarded, forgotten, next to the keyboard. Nothing much has changed since then.

Today, I have over 20 years of computer-related experience, and over 12 years of hands-on web design experience. Not to mention several dozen happy customers. Most of our clients are in the greater Milwaukee and Waukesha area, but we happily accept clients from anywhere in the world. Some of our current clients are as far and wide as Oregon, New Hampshire, California, and Arizona, to name a few.

We work out of our home-based offices, which means that our clients receive the highest quality of customer service at great prices, because we have very little overhead. We can, and often do, work around the clock, 7 days a week. We don't keep a set schedule unless we have a meeting or appointment, and we enjoy our work a great deal, so it's not unusual to get an email reply from us at 3am when you have a question or problem.

Because we don't want to interfere with visitors who might be browsing our clients' websites, the majority of our work is done third shift. This way, our clients' websites don't experience any downtime while we work. We go above and beyond for our clients because we appreciate their business and have a passion for perfection, and our clients enjoy our attention to detail and our dedication.

Although we are only three people, we can still help with your large project. We have long-standing relationships with several trusted professional people and organizations who bring a variety of skills to the table. These services include, but aren't limited to, professional photography, graphic design, print marketing, software design, database related functions, and more. No matter what your project entails, if we don't offer a particular service, we probably know someone who does that we can refer you to.

Our specialty is building low-bandwidth, search engine optimized web sites that are attractive, fast loading, and easy for your users to navigate, no matter what their skill level or their modem speed.

Our business model is simple, and best summed up in my father's words: "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right." In a nutshell, we at Green Web Design are as dedicated to our clients' projects as we are to our own. We work as hard for you as we do for ourselves. After all, if you look good, then we look good too!

In addition to our regular work, we also own and operate a popular online classifieds website, which many of our clients enjoy using to showcase their products. A basic ad is just $4.95 and runs for 365 days! With your ad, you enjoy features like front page featured listings, image gallery listings, custom storefronts, and other great options designed to get your business products and services the attention they deserve!
